[ARCHIVED] Spring Hydrant Flushing

A water hydrant shooting a stream of water onto the street.

Spring hydrant flushing for the Township will begin the week of April 24th and should continue for approximately 4 weeks. You may notice Public Works personnel working at fire hydrants and see water running down the street. The Township will flush water lines through the use of fire hydrants, which is an important preventive maintenance activity. Although, it may appear to wastewater, the process is part of a routine maintenance program necessary to maintain the integrity of the water system allowing us to continue to deliver the highest quality water possible to our customers.

During flushing, deposits from water lines may create a yellowish to brownish discoloration of water in homes near the flushing areas. While this water is safe for drinking, it may discolor laundry. If you experience a discoloration in your water, go to the lowest level of your home and only run your cold water for 15-20 minutes at one faucet at a low flow level. If your water does not run clear after this time, please contact our offices at 651-747-2750.
